![]() ![]() That said, the coarser the tablet texture, the faster your pen nibs will wear down. Keep in mind though that the tablet surface is important: it's difficult to draw on a completely smooth tablet. I'd recommend looking at the range of products that Wacom have - they used to occasionally do bundles with Painter if you're just starting out though, you might want to just look at some cheaper tablets on Amazon. It's been a while since I've looked at tablets so my knowledge is a little out of date. I'm not set on getting the tablet, but thought that was a requirement or at least a better way to do digital art no? This Humble deal is a great offer for art dabblers or photographers! ![]() Have had some version of it on the PC ever since. I started with Painter Classic 1.0 for the PC in 1999, then upgraded to Painter 8 in 2004. Painter was originally a Mac program developed by Fractal Design (1991?), which merged with RayDream, then MetaTools, to become MetaCreations. Regarding Corel Painter however, which is cross-platform Mac compatible, I have not seen those types of Windows dependencies, thus a longer life span of usefulness with older versions. This comment above was about CorelDraw, which is a Windows only application. You were lucky that just updating your current OS resolved your issues! I think that the Corel developers must use the latest Windows programming libraries to advance their latest products with the latest new features that were not available on earlier versions of the OS. In this case I had an up to date OS, but needed an updated application. Fortunately I took advantage of an upgrade offer just before Corel stopped offering upgrade editions of that product. I think that you have made a great point about Corel software!įor example I had an older version of Corel Graphics Suite X4 (from 2008) that would NOT install and run on Windows 10, but ran just fine on Windows 7. Just thought I would give a heads up, if you are on Win 7 and you get some odd behavior, make sure Win 7 is fully updated. In fairness, they do say that on their site. It even shows brush tilt with the cursor which is a nice feature. It seems as though this software really needs windows 7 to be up to date. On Painter 2020, the Deco Pro just works without any configuration changes. Upside, I ended up getting an XP-Pen Deco Pro (small) to use with Rebelle 3, but that needed special setups to get full use from with Escape Emotions software. That is far easier to consolidate and purge them as needed. This Painter cache seems intended as a pagefile (not seen it used yet), but every other program has a temp working directory. My C drive is only 250GB, so I am pretty strict on pathing with temp files. I actually do not like they have brushes separated by Painter version anyway. Oh well, moving them didn't affect 2020 in the slightest. In fact, there is a 2021 brush folder there, but they went on the cache drive. I just found it odd they used the cache location rather than side-by-side with where 2020 installs. It may be a side effect of the brush packs themselves since they are for all versions, and 2021 is out on the streets. I was looking for this issue online and not seen anyone mention it, but it using that drive made me assume it was linked to the cache setting. ![]() Well, realizing that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, LOL!Īn example from an older version of Painter: ![]() Just the desire to be creative and turn your photos into works of art. There is also the possibility to learn "Painter for Photographers", without the need for existing painting or drawing skills. I just quickly did this guys seminar though and was quite surprised how quick it came together to do something simple.īeing able to draw can have all sorts of benefits for designing your own website graphics, CD covers/on-line product boxes, film storyboards (mine are terrible!) etc There are plenty of great videos on youtube and after a bit of research, I discovered there are group drawing classes at a local community center and art class for just $3.00 - $12.00 for 1hr.Ĭould be a great skill for anyone to add for a little dosh and a bit of practice. My drawing skills are pretty bad, I've always wanted to improve my drawing for some of the stuff I do especially cartoon type characters, but thought it was a skill beyond me. Just deciding whether I want to go for the Painter as well. Thanks Abacab, yes, the standard version misses out a lot of what you really need in the RAW conversion engine but that sounds fine. ![]()
